“My parents come from Peru, specifically a small village named Huamanmarca. Money had always been an issue for my parents, always worrying about the next dish of food they’d have. Once they immigrated to Colorado, they continued to live in struggle, but now there was hope for a future of education for their kids. My parents are unable to grant my sister and I the full potential of colorful opportunities that America holds due to these financial constraints. However, with the help of the Kristin D. Hiza Memorial Scholarship, I’m one step closer to alleviating that burden off of my parents. I reach closer to a future that my parents sacrificed their life for, and one that I’ve always dreamed of.”
